The Yoga Garden was created to provide a dedicated place for the practise of yoga in a harmonious and tranquil environment. Founder Nina, inspired by her love of practising Yoga in nature, opened up the center to create a peaceful healing space and an alternative to getting fit in a noisy gym or crowded sports centre. The centre, which has now been open for three years, offers a range of classes, in a variety of styles, for all members of the community, including, hatha, hot, vinyasa flow, pre and post natal, special needs, therapeutic and children’s yoga. The Yoga Garden also hosts regular charity events where students unite to practise together in order to raise funds and awareness for charitable causes. Currently the Yoga Garden is supporting a Mysore based Anti-trafficking organisation and children’s home in India (www.odanadi.org) as well as a local conservation projects (www.sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk).The Studio itself is a beautiful hand crafted Mongolian style Yurt. The organic breathing structure creates a light and airy studio, which is both warm in winter, thanks to the wood burning stove and felted wool lining, and cool in the summer. The Yurt has a smooth wooden floor and is fully equipped with top of the range ethically sourced organic yoga mats, bolsters and blankets.

Situated at the very foot of South Downs near Storrington in West Sussex. The Yoga Garden nestles amidst the fields, horses and wildflowers and evokes a sense of calm and wellbeing to all who visit.

The yoga garden welcomes all who want to grow in their yoga practice or try for the very first time. Nina and her team will ensure you experience yoga or massage in a safe and nurturing environment.

'May our heart's garden of awakening bloom with hundreds of flowers.' - Thich Nhat Hanh

Qualifications

Nina Fowkes – Founder of The Yoga Garden & Therapist

Nina first developed an interest in health, fitness and nutrition 25 years ago whilst living in California. She later went on to study Nutrition in Geneva, before starting a Catering company specialising in serving healthy lunches to local businesses and International Organisations.

Nina returned to the UK in 1995 where she underwent training in Massage and Aromatherapy. Her interest in Yoga, Eastern Philosophy and Medicine led her to Northern Thailand in 2001 where she began her study of Thai Massage, returning in 2007 to Qualify in Traditional Thai Massage at the Wat Po Medical School in Bangkok. She continues to deepen her knowledge by attending advanced practitioner courses in London and Brighton.

Nina has been practising yoga since her mid teens and has been fortunate to study with many inspiring teachers along her journey.  When teaching yoga herself she incorporates elements of aromatherapy, Thai Massage and Ayurveda into her classes, to evoke the senses and bring about deep relaxation.

During the summer of 2009 Nina developed the idea of creating the Yoga Garden to provide a beautiful space to practise Yoga close to nature and to provide her clients with a tranquil environment for improving their health and bringing their bodies back into shape and balance.
