The Benefits Of Cold Showers

The Benefits Of Cold Showers

If you want to kickstart your day feeling refreshed and bubbling with energy, then try a cold shower!

A cold shower is a simple yet powerful habit to develop. Yes, it requires commitment and discipline, but if you want to be an action taker, if you want to get to the next level, if you want things to change for the better, then a cold shower will be of benefit. Taking one on waking and before bed at night will be an invaluable tool in your transformation journey.

Cold showers help improve physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Making cold showers a ritual will not only make you feel better, it will also help you improve other areas in your life, areas you may feel are keeping you stuck. Cold showers can help keep you grounded and in the present moment.   On a physical level, they open the capillaries and clear toxins at a deep level resulting in better skin and an improved the immune system. In turn, this reduces susceptibility to colds and sickness and overall helps you feel healthier.

Because of their elevating effect on mood, cold showers can help with anxiety and depression and are a brilliant way to clear yourself of stagnant energy.  It may seem as if cold showers are an old boarding school type punishment, but in fact, they are a powerful way to not only clear negativity from you that you may be feeling, but over time they will work on clearing more deep-seated issues.

If you have ever known how wonderful you feel if you have swum in the sea, a river or a lake, then you will understand how you can bring that feeling into your everyday experience just with 10 seconds of discipline.

Start with the temperature as cold as possible.  The little shiver you give with the cold enables you to release the negative energies that have been held in the energy body. People with shorter hair are usually more able to wet their head.  Those with longer hair may need to use a shower cap, or start on the forehead. Do it for at least 7 - 10 seconds. Allow the water to go down your front, including your forehead and throat, around and over your shoulders, and also down your back. Have your warm shower after the cold one. Warm water pushes the toxins and negativity further in, whereas cold water pulls it out.

The ideal is to have one cold shower in the morning after sleeping, another when you have finished work, and, if you are out for the evening, or have had a difficult evening, watched the news or taken a phone call etc., a final one before you go to bed. If to start with you can only manage one shower then perhaps the best time is immediately after you get in from work.  Doing this will help you leave the workday behind so that you can be more 'yourself' in your own home. However, a cold shower in the morning gives you a great way to start the day in action-taking mode.

Contrary to what you might think, a quick cold shower does not leave you cold. Cold water stimulates your body to create heat by itself. You will find you get to love the feeling and recognise when you need one at other times. Do it every day for at least 3-4 weeks and then look at the difference to your energy levels. I have never known anyone do that and then want to stop but taking cold showers even for a few days will show you what your life could be like, and how much better you could feel every day.
