Articles - Can I mention my business?

Articles are here as a way for you to help educate the world about the amazing therapies and services that are available, hints and tips on how to achieve a healthier way of being and inspire/motivate people to try new things, shift their mindset, do better and be better. They are a fantastic way of increasing your credibility as the expert in your field and also your visibility and exposure as an expert business owner.

Articles are a promotion tool of sorts in that they are your space to share your knowledge. We value your time and skills and there is a space at the base of each article you write where your 'author bio' appears. This text and picture can be edited from your account area and it is a space for you to explain a little more about your business and how readers can find out more about you (ie through your website link).

We will not publish articles that:

  • Are essentially a business listing disguised as an article
  • Purely self promotional
  • Have lots of back-links to other sources (unless they are very relevant to the reader)

If your article includes lots of links to your own websites then we may edit the article to remove these and still publish it, or we may not publish the article.

We do the above because we have found it to deliver the best results for a number of reasons including that when people are reading articles they want to learn, not be sold to. It reflects better on both the author and our website if we deliver articles of interest and not blatant promotional posts. The author area is your place to sell yourself to the reader, the article is there to show they how knowledgeable you are, which then encourages them to contact you to find out more. Articles - I’ve registered as a Basic Member, what now?

You can add articles yourself via the website by registering for a 'Basic Membership' and then once you're logged in visiting the 'My Account' tab on the website - this will appear (instead of the Add Your Business tab) once you're logged in, which you can do top right of the website.

Once on your account page you will see some links to various things you can do on your account including 'Add and article' and 'Edit and article' - Add will open a form for you to fill in for your article and once you've clicked 'submit' it will get added to our selection of articles for review before being made live on the website. The article checking is required to ensure the formatting is the best it can be, that there is an image attached and that the information is suitable to go public.

Articles - How many words should they be?

Articles should be between 250 - 1000 words in length. If you have a long story/piece to submit we recommend splitting it up with sub-headings to make it easier on the eye for people reading it on screen.

Articles - What information is needed?

If you view some of the other articles we already have on the website you'll get a good feel forwhat we're looking for and you'll see that they are all about educating the readers about a particular topic, for example a treatment, therapy, way of life and some reviews too. all articles submitted are sent to an admin area where they are flagged as in need of checking before being made live on the website. This enables us to check that the article is suitable for our readership, it contains a good/appropriate image and is formatted to look its best. Once approved the article is placed live on the website.

I want to add my ‘Avatar’ but it’s saying the file is too big, how can I resize it?

Avatars need to be less that 300 x 300 pixels to be uploaded. There are a number of ways you can resize images either online or on your computer and we have included a few links here that should help:

I want to add a web link, image and some text to my article ‘Author Credit’ how do I do it?

To edit any of the information in your Author Credit go to your account page and click the 'Edit your account' link - the information on this page is the information on your Author Credit:

Real Name - this is the name that apppears as the author name
Location - this is optional to say where you are and does not show on your author credit
URL - this is the web address that shows next to your author credit
Bio - this is the text that shows next to your author credit
Billing details: this is your billing address for the account and does not show on your author credit
Avatar - this is the image that shows next to your author credit
Password - you can edit your password for your account (login) here

I’ve published my event but can’t find it?

Try searching for your locaction (county) or type of event and scroll through the pages to the date of your event - or use the search box on the events page (beneath the categories).

We currently have to limit the number of events showing on the website to the next 3-5 months as we already have so many on there - but we're also working on solving this but at the moment it's the best way to avoid timeouts and keep the website functioning well.

So if you've added any events after Sept 2012 they may not be showing on the website yet but they will appear as we get closer to the dates and as the current dates disappear :)

I would like to cancel my subscription - how do I do this?

I have a free listing and would like to upgrade to an Elite Membership - how do I do this?

Due to the way the subscriptions work you will need to set up a new account with us - to do this simply go to the 'add your business' page and clicking to purchase either the monthly or annual subscription.

Once you have done this please contact support@theholisticdirectory.co.uk and we will transfer any events and articles you have on your free account over to your full membership account for ease of editing for you.

I can see articles with text and images next to the ‘Author’ credit at the bottom, how do I do that?

Enter your account page and click the link to 'Edit your account' - in here you can edit the following:

I have added a logo but can’t see any images on my listing?

When you add your business the form includes an upload for a 'logo' this image is the small one that you will see on the home page for newly added businesses and also on the main Directory pages. If you do not upload a logo or other image here then the Holistic Directory default image will be used.

Images for your listing can be added from your account on the 'Edit your photo gallery' page. The 'primary' image is the main one that appears top right of your business listing. All other images added will appear as part of your gallery on the listing page.

You can add or edit all your photos at any time.

I have added an article but it’s not showing on the website?

All articles are submitted for approval by the Holistic Directory web team. Once approved the article will be made live on the website.

I’ve had a subscription reminder through - do I need to do anything?

You can see your subscription details on your account page when you click the 'My subscriptions' link. From here you can see previous payments and also can renew your account mannually, for example if you wish to change the card that was paid with previously.

I have a discount code - where can I use it to register?

Discount codes applying to the annual Elite Membership can be used in the Discount Code box on the main registration form on the Add My Business page.

Likewise, if you have a code for the monthly subscription this can also be used on the registration page.

If you did not remember to include the code on sign-up please contact support@theholisticdirectory.co.uk  and include both eyour business name, subcription number and dicscount code you meant to use. This must be done within 24 hours of registering to qualify for the discount.

I have registered for Elite Membership - what now?

Once you have registered and paid for your membership you will be able to log into your account using the username and password you chose on registration.

Once logged in you can go to your account page by clicking the 'My Account' tab on the main menu. From here you can add your listing, events and articles and also edit all of these too along with adding photos and editing your article author credit and other settings.

What is included in a listing on The Holistic Directory?

A listing on The Holistic Directory includes: Summary text, main description, full contact details, social media links, full list of searchable therapies/services, Google maps, Image gallery (up to 10 images), video, pricelist/brochure upload and your own admin section where you can easily edit your listing and also add events and submit articles for inclusion on the website - Massive value-for-money advertising!
